Vosne Romanee Jens Lindsby
White
2001 J.M. Boillot
Corton-Charlemagne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune,
Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Aromas of honey and some tropical fruits. Creamy, fat and oily, but
also a strong mineral component with fine acidity.
(93 pts.)
Flight 1:
Lamarche, Grande Rue and Suchots
2003 Domaine Francois Lamarche
Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots - France, Burgundy, Côte de
Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Nice nose with strawberry and oak. Very seductive, a pleaser and
easy to appreciate and understand. Wonderfull light berries and nice
power and lenght. One of the tasters didn't like it that much,
thought there was to much new world influence, which problably is
because of the vintage. But a joy it was (93 pts.)
1999 Domaine Francois Lamarche La Grande Rue
- France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Grande Rue Grand Cru
Almost black cherries and gunpowder on the nose. Powerfull and
young, but at the same time harmonious, precise and balanced. Could
use a little additional time in the cellar, but for me this was a
very special and unique wine (94 pts.)
Flight 2:
Meo
2005 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux
Brulees - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er
Cru
Tons of fruit in this one and so primary. Full-bodied and powerfull,
but after some time the palate was wonderfull elegant and balanced.
Still too young with a completely unevolved nose. But great
potential (95 pts.)
2004 Domaine Méo-Camuzet
Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cros Parantoux - France, Burgundy, Côte
de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Wonderfull dense deep nose with gunpowder and red fruit. The
impression of this wine was changing many times among the tasters,
which maybe reflect how complex it was. Seems to have a very strong
almost masculine side, but also at the same time sweet with
strawberry and cherry. Also marked by oak and well integrated
tannins. To me this was the evenings most interesting wine. Almost
ridiculous to make wine here, the price is ridiculous, but pure
magic !! (97 pts.)
Flight 3:
Richebourg and Leroy
2002 Domaine Anne Gros
Richebourg - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg
Grand Cru
Complex deep nose with cherry and brown sugar, has an almost dusty
aspect and the oak is evident. The palate is still primary but with
wonderfull elegance and finesse. Aristocratic and very long. Great
(96 pts.)
2001 Domaine Jean Grivot
Richebourg - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg
Grand Cru
Aromas of black fruit, strawberry and bitter chocolate. Fine elegant
and long with plenty of ripe fruit but also a bitter component. This
might be underrated, but it just didn't stand the test against Anne
Gros and Leroy in this flight. (93
pts.)
1996 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée
1er Cru Les Beaux Monts - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits,
Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Sweet, dense with brown sugar, asphalt and an almost burnt nuance.
Powerfull, still young and the oak is evident. A very complex wine
with plenty of fruit, especially cherries. Explosive on the long
finish. 94+ (94 pts.)
Flight 4:
Romanee St. Vivant
2005 Lucien Le Moine Romanée St.
Vivant - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant
Grand Cru
Wonderfull deep dark nose with black fruits and mint. Your darkest
burgundy, has a certain class but to my palate too dominated by oak.
Ending in a moderate finish with substantial bitterness and dryness.
I have had 3 of Moines 2005 Grand Crus and this is not a style of
Burgundy that I am fond of, but perhaps others are better able to
appreciate this style. (93 pts.)
2005 Jean-Jacques Confuron Romanée St. Vivant
- France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Deep, dense with cherry and moccha, a multilayered nose. Vibrant,
juicy almost like silk with masses of light berries. Concentrated
and powerfull but at the same time light on it's feet. Everything so
elegant with so much finesse. Young but in a class by itself (98
pts.)
Flight 5:
La Tache and La Romanee
2004 Bouchard Père et Fils La Romanée -
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Romanée Grand Cru
:-( (FLAWED)
2000 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche -
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Tâche Grand Cru
Intense aromas of the most concentrated strawberries and cherries.
Also vanilla, caramel and the oak is evident. Tons of very sweet
ripe fruit. Large bodied and dense. A very intense wine with a long
finish. A pleasure to drink and clearly a special Burgundy (95
pts.)
Dessert
1997 Château Suduiraut -
France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Nice nose with honey, apricots and also more tropical nuances.Thick
and creamy with nice boytrotis. Moderate intensity and lenght.
(92 pts.)
It was a
great tasting with so many faboulous and unique wines. I would love
to do a tasting like this again and it is easy to understand why
Vosne-Romanee is considered to be one of the worlds greatest wines.
Offcourse it was a disappoinment that Romanee was flawed and Moine
didn't live up to it's high rating, but that didn't surprise me. The
2005's were on the young side and Meo Brulees was very primary. The
rest of the wines were fine to try now, although many of them
offcourse will improve for many years.
